Participation in Reconstruction Activities

Participation in Reconstruction Activities
In the first half of FY2018, disasters such as the Heavy Rain Event on July 2018 and Hokkaido Eastern Iburi Earthquake occurred in Japan.
The ANA Group made donations, collected mileage donations from customers, and conducted internal fundraising led by ANA Group executives and employees.
We donated through the Japanese Red Cross Society and local governments to support the affected areas.
In the aftermath of the disasters, we provided free air tickets on ANA-operated flights connecting all areas of Japan to the areas affected for emergency support groups providing relief and support (Japanese Red Cross Society, Japan Platform, requests by some local governments, etc.). We also cooperated in the shipment of relief and support supplies.
Based on the Agreement on Emergency Material Transport Support (concluded in December 2016) between ANA Holdings and Seven & i Holdings, ANA responded to a request from Seven & i for priority domestic transport of emergency supplies and products for relief activities in response to the Eastern Hokkaido Iburi Earthquake. Cargo transport was offered free of charge or at discounts by ANA.
Support for Sediment Removal Work in Areas Affected by the Heavy Rains in July 2018
The ANA Group participated in disaster reconstruction volunteer in Uwajima City, Ehime Prefecture, which experienced severe damage in the July 2018 heavy rains in central Shikoku. A total of 32 people volunteered in response to a call for volunteers from ANA Group employees across Japan.
Volunteers helped remove dirt and sand that flowed into houses due to landslides, carried furniture and household goods outside, and delivered food to displaced persons at evacuation shelters.

ANA Forest of the Heart Project
In July 2012, the ANA Group launched the ANA Forest of the Heart project for forest conservation and earthquake recovery.
ANA Group employees participate in volunteer activities that include tree thinning and forest trail maintenance. Conducted appropriately, tree thinning and maintenance allows for more light to enter the forest. Forests not only absorb carbon dioxide, but also enrich the soil and protect biodiversity. The nutrient-rich water nurtured in nearby forests flows to rivers, eventually helping to grow sea agriculture in Minamisanriku Town, Miyagi Prefecture. Wood left over from thinning in the Minamisanriku Forest is used in local factories to create products, helping create work for those involved in forest maintenance and product manufacturing. The ANA Group conducts this activity on an annual basis in cooperation with Boeing, one of our important business partners.
The ANA Group will continue to work to help the forests, skies, and people of the Tohoku region grow and thrive.

Support for the OISCA Coastal Forest Restoration 10-Year Project.
The tsunami caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake destroyed the coastal forest along the northeast cost of Japan. This coastal forest played an important role in the preservation of the local living environment, known as a disaster prevention forest to defend against flying sand and serve as a windbreak. As part of the ANA Group long-term participation in reconstruction activities, We have been supporting and participating in the OISCA coastal forest restoration 10-year plan project in Natori, Miyagi Prefecture since 2011. In June and September 2019, approximately 60 ANA Group employees participated in activities under the guidance of OISCA staff and local farmers, weeding and performing other tasks.

Tohoku FLOWER JET
Sharing the Spirit and Gratitude of Tohoku Throughout Japan
The ANA Group has operated the Tohoku FLOWER JET since May 14, 2016.
The aircraft features the strong, beautiful and straight flowers that bloom in Tohoku. This livery communicates the message that we will remember the disaster, as well as the spirit and gratitude of the people of Tohoku. The livery also serves to highlight the charm of Tohoku to the rest of Japan.
The ANA Group sells Tohoku FLOWER JET-related goods and flowers, donating a portion of the proceeds to the Michinoku Future Fund to support children orphaned in the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

Blooming Flowers Project
The flower bloom project is an activity in which participants plant sunflowers on the slope of the runway at Fukushima Airport. We have sponsored this activity with members of the local community since 2012 to share the message for all to keep looking up, just like the sunflower. We conducted our fiscal 2019 together with the NTT EAST Group, and a total of 165 volunteers participated, including people from Sukagawa City, Tamagawa Village, and other local Fukushima Prefecture communities.
Volunteers planted new flowers carefully. Pushing over soil with little hands, one child volunteer encouraged the flowers, saying, "You've grown since last time." Another volunteer voiced their hope that airplane passengers can look down and see the flowers from above.
The large sunflowers had grown even larger by In mid-August, greeting Fukushima Airport passengers with the ANA motto, Anshin, Attaka, Akaruku-genki! (Trustworthy, Heartwarming, Energetic!).

Collaborative Efforts to Support Community Redevelopment
During times of natural disaster involving economic damage to regional economies, the ANA Group provides active support in the form of free air tickets to emergency support groups, etc. ANA Group employees even offer warm baths for those affected people by the disaster. To support the extended reconstruction efforts in areas affected by the Kumamoto earthquakes of April 2016, the ANA Group launched the Disaster Reconstruction Leader Connect Program in June 2017 in cooperation with the Japan Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (JVOAD).
This program aims to build a community of reconstruction support leaders from the Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, the Niigata Chuetsu Earthquake, the Great East Japan Earthquake, and the more-recent Kumamoto earthquakes. The program also aims to establish a legacy of reconstruction expertise accumulated from this community. ANA supports the reconstruction support leaders through air transport services. JVOAD is responsible for coordination with local reconstruction support NPOs and leader development plans.
Program Example
As an effort to build stronger ties among citizens, a youth group in the Nishihara Village Kogaku area of Kumamoto Prefecture, visited the Boshuan community center in the Shiodani Shuraku of Ojiya City. Ojiya City was at the center of the Chuetsu Earthquake in Niigata Prefecture. Boshuan is a space for exchange, not only for residents of Shiodani Village but also for people and volunteers who have left the village.
The site visit by the Nishihara Village youth group and the exchange of opinions with reconstructions upport leaders will be used as knowledge and important lessons for creating a community where anyone use as a support for reconstruction efforts.
