ANA Group Tax Policy
Core Principles
As a corporate citizen, the ANA Group considers the proper reporting and fulfillment of tax obligations related to our business activities as a social responsibility. Doing so enables the Group to preserve its corporate value and contribute to the development of communities in each relevant country.
Vision
The ANA Group complies with treaties, relevant laws and regulations in each country and region, internal regulations, etc., in order to continue properly reporting and fulfilling tax obligations based on the Group's collective efforts as well as a Group-wide, cross-functional system of tax governance.
Course of Action
The ANA Group believes that the aforementioned vision can be realized and exposure to tax risks can be minimized if Group employees base their conduct on the course of action outlined below. Furthermore, this tax-specific course of action is positioned as an integral part of the Social Responsibility element of ANA's Way, the Group's core values and behaviors.
Compliance with Laws and Regulations
- As an airline with a global network and business locations around the world, the ANA Group complies with not only the relevant laws and regulations of Japan, but also treaties and relevant laws and regulations of each country and region.
- The ANA Group monitors for dramatic changes and trends in international tax frameworks such as the Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) Project and takes appropriate measures accordingly.
Fair Business Practices
- In addition to complying with laws and regulations, the ANA Group applies appropriately stipulated internal accounting rules, authority standards, etc., in order to execute economically rational business practices that are based on transparent plans as well as transactions which are characterized by clear transaction histories, details, compensation, etc.
- For international transactions between ANA Group companies, the ANA Group complies with relevant transfer pricing taxation rules as well as the OECD Transfer Pricing Guidelines and strives to ensure appropriate corporate income distribution in each country through pricing that is based on the arm's-length principle.
Talent Development
- The ANA Group provides employees with regular and recurrent on-the-job training related to tax accounting. The training system is stratified based on employee position, experience, and duties, and aims to more efficiently develop and improve talent with highly specialized knowledge who can execute tax accounting at the ANA Group.
- In addition to knowledge acquisition through on-the-job training, the ANA Group promotes the importance of tax compliance at the managerial level and implements educational measures to maintain and enhance this understanding.
Tax Management
- Important tax-related matters such as results from tax investigations, trends in tax systems, and changes to tax amounts are reported by the relevant CFO at management meetings as necessary.
- In terms of authority standards, a system under which certain transactions require the approval of the relevant Accounting & Business Management department or the holding company, ANA Holdings Inc., has been established. Based on this system, personnel who execute or are responsible for tax-related matters accurately and quickly identify various transactions and cases and consider tax-related handling as one of the important factors of business activities.
- In order to ensure proper execution of tax accounting at each ANA Group business location, the relevant location and Accounting & Business Management department must cooperate closely with each other.
- Personnel who execute or are responsible for tax-related matters must proactively identify revisions and trends in tax systems and rules both inside and outside Japan, consider their impacts on the ANA Group, and take appropriate measures accordingly.
Utilization of External Knowledge
- When a tax-related matter requires highly-specialized, multifaceted examinations or accurate interpretation of tax laws, the ANA Group will consult external specialists such as tax accounting firms, corporate tax advisors, etc., as necessary.
- With regards to important tax-related points of contention that may arise in each case, the ANA Group will seek confirmation from the relevant tax authorities in advance and strive to clarify the relevant handling.
Relationship with Relevant Tax Authorities
- The ANA Group will cooperate with tax investigations promptly and in good faith.
- The ANA Group will strive to build a relationship of trust with the relevant tax authorities by clearly indicating the Group's views regarding taxes associated with business activities and proactively sharing tax-related goals and issues, as well as tax accounting processes related to business management issues.
